Tolosa, the principal town of the district of Tolosaldea, has always played an important role in the history of Gipuzkoa, where it achieved the status of capital city of this province in the mid nineteenth century. As a result, the old quarters of the town are of considerable architectural interest.

Different places in Spain are renowned for particular dishes. For example, Castile for the best roast lamb, Soria for roast suckling pig and undoubtedly there is also a place name for the best steak or Txuleta: the Txuleta from Tolosa. Every year in December, the Tolosa Gourmet steak festival is held in the town, attended by thousands of visitors who can enjoy eating a magnificent steak.
